What are the effects on our planet?


This image from NASA satellite data shows the extent of Arctic sea ice at the end of summer 2012. The yellow outline shows the average end-of-summer sea ice over the past 30 years since satellites began observing.  



Key Questions:

1. Who are NASA?
2. What does the picture tell you about the polar ice caps? 
3. What will happen if the ice continues to melt?







According to NASA, the planet is 1.3ยบ hotter now than it was 

in 1985.


Key Questions:
1. By looking at the picture, can you think of reasons why the temperature has rose?
2. What might happen to the planet as a result? 
3. How would this effect people?


Case Study: Harrison's Story



Key Questions:
1. What weather extreme are the people of Kenya experiencing as a result of global warming?
2. When was the last time there was a lot of rainfall?
3. What effects have these weather conditions on the people of Kenya?
4. In what way are our actions linked to the case of the Kenyan people?

Group Task:
In your assigned groups you are going to explore one type of weather disaster caused by global warming. 

Group One: Drought.
Group Two: Severe Storm.
Group Three: Flood.

You will have to research the cause of this and find an example of a country where your weather disaster has taken place. When you have gathered all the information you need you can get started on your glog.
